Tips On Fixing A Vacuum With Horrible Suction

Learn on how to fix your vacuum with horrible suction

Learn how to fix a vacuum with horrible suction. I have tried numerous vacuums throughout the past seven years. No matter how expensive or cheap a vacuum is, it’s usefulness comes down to it’s suction performance. Many of us have been guilty of having a sucky vacuum in our home that has horrible suction. Instead of getting frustrated and tossing it to purchase another one try these tips.

1.) Adjust The Height

A lot of times the reason it’s not sucking up everything is becasue the height isn’t low enough and close to the floor. Look for a dial or lever with levels from 1 to 5 on it or your vacuum might just have two options between “bare floor” and “carpet”. I have seen many people use a vacuum but ignore this feature.

2.) Check To See If The Bag Is Full

If the suction is still poor after you’ve adjusted the height then check the bag. If the bag is full your suction will be poor. Some vacuum have a light to tell you when the bag is full while others you have to check. If there isn’t much room inside left for any more dirt then change the bag or empty the chamber. The vacuum sounds the sam with or without a full bag so you must check it every now and then to see.

3.) The Hose May Be Clogged

Disconnect the hose from the vacuum and look through it to see if you get a clean view out. Some hoses have corners so this is not possible. I always throw a nickel down one end and figure out if it gets stuck in the hose and if so where to know where the clog is. It’s best to take it outside to clean it. Try sticking a broom handle down it to see if it unclogs. If your hose does have corners this won’t always work so unfold a wire hanger to help pick it out.

4.) The Roller May Be Clogged

It’s time to flip your vacuum over and clean it up. If the roller is wrapped with hair or yarn from your carpet, it won’t be able to turn or brush through the carpet and  will fail miserably at picking up dirt. If you see your roller is full of hair, yarn or some cords, this can easily be fixed with a sharp pair of scissors. Snip through the hair and gunk a little at a time. The furry mess will come off in small pieces, so as you cut, start pulling it away and tossing it in the trash. Once you are done, flip the vacuum over and see if it is working better.

5.) Maybe The Vacuum Isn’t Airtight

The vacuum may not be working because it isn’t airtight. Just like its name, a vacuum relies on the machine creating a vacuum to suck up dirt from the floor. If air is escaping the system, it can’t pull the stuff up. If there’s a gap for air to get around the closure, your vacuum won’t pick up much from the floor. Check that the pieces are securely put together. If that looks good, check to make sure your vacuum bag is securely attached to the vacuum. Maybe you didn’t push it on far enough when installing the vacuum bag, it may have fallen off and therefore there’s no suction being created.

So If your vacuum still isn’t working, you may want to consider taking it to a vacuum repair shop. Call around to local repair shops to find out if they service your make and model. Vacuum repairs are often fairly inexpensive, but if you have a larger problem, it may be more cost effective to purchase a new vacuum. The person on the other end of the phone may be willing to do a little diagnosis over the phone before you lug it down to the shop. This won’t be incredibly accurate, but depending on your vacuum and what symptoms it has, they may tell you to skip the repairs and purchase a new one. They’ll be able to fix any vacuum with horrible suction!

An Organized House is a Happy Life

Did you know, an organized house is a happy life! Do you feel better in a clean and uncluttered space? Sure you do! When everything in our home has its own place life just feels better.

Stop and think about how much stress in your life is actually created by clutter or poor organizational habits. Disorganized spaces can actually put stress on both the body and mind. Our bodies hurt when we trip over a misplaced shoe or step on a Lego (ouch!). Our minds hurt when we can’t find what we are looking for or we try to concentrate on something but the chaos around us is too distracting. Taking a little time to organize and declutter can lift a great weight.

If you feel like it’s time for an organization overhaul, my advice is to declutter first.

Clear The Clutter

Take a good look around and find things that you really don’t need. Try doing this room by room. Try not to touch the items too much. Holding items makes us remember why we were hanging onto them in the first place. If you’re not using it right now however, there is no need to keep it. Try to work fast and trust your first instinct. If you think about it for too long you will find a “reason” why you need to hang onto it.

Organizing for Happiness

Our challenge for today:

Choose one area that we want to clean and organize and get started on it TODAY. You may not have time to do a full-fledged purge today but you can at least start to envision what your clean and organized space should look like. You can also set a goal to get rid of 5 things from this particular space right now.

Then, choose five more areas you want to clean and organize this month. Here are some ideas:

  • Kitchen cabinets
  • Pantry
  • Laundry Room
  • Kids Toys
  • Paperwork
  • Refrigerator
  • Desk Drawers
  • Makeup Storage
  • Garage
  • Basement

Essentially having a clean and organized home allows my brain to relax and concentrate on things that are important, instead of feeling scrambled because I’m frantically searching for something I can’t find. Or constantly feeling like I need to clean the area around me instead of doing my office work. Go declutter, get organized and do what works for you!
