Cleaning Greasy Cabinets

Cleaning Greasy Cabinets

Need help cleaning greasy cabinets? It’s easy to get built up grease on cabinets especially around the knobs. It’s best to maintain these areas before they get really bad. If it’s maintained and done often, cleaning greasy cabinets will only need an easy wipe. The longer you ignore them and don’t clean them the more grease and food particles get caked on and cleaning greasy cabinets becomes a harder task.

How to clean those greasy cabinets

Use a squirt of dawn dish soap (the blue one kicks ass) with 1 apart vinegar and 2 parts water. Mix in a spray bottle, or a bowl. Then just use a microfiber cloth to wipe off the grease. If you hit some tough areas with caked on foods, try applying some baking soda to your rag before wiping to add some scouring.  Wipe cabinets down with a dry cloth afterwards and go over them with a wood polish like pledge.

Oil to clean?

I have heard that you can use oil to clean oil but i haven’t yet tried this yet. Other cleaners recommend cleaning with a vegtable oil but I’m not trying to get oiled down in the process. You’re always opened to trying this trick and letting me know how it goes!

Should you hire a cleaning company or an independent cleaner?

Not sure if you should hire a cleaning company over an independent cleaner?

Many people believe that hiring a maid service is too much money; however, the opposite is actually true. There are many reasons why a maid service can save you money and make your life easier. The first reason is that time equal’s money. Have you ever thought about how much your time is worth? Chances are that it is worth much more than what you would pay a maid service. The second reason is that you’ll save money by not having to stock up on cleaning products. A maid service comes to your home equipped with everything they need to clean your home, so you don’t have to worry about keeping anything in stock.

Third, is that when you don’t have to do the cleaning yourself, you have more time to spend with your family – and that is priceless! If you suffer from allergies, you can breathe easy. Maid services use professional-strength cleaners that get rid of allergens and dust mites, saving you money on prescription and over-the-counter allergy medication. Fifth, having your home cleaned can lessen your stress. Imagine knowing that your home is being cleaned while you’re at work. Less stress can save you from potential health issues down the road, thus saving you hundreds of dollars in medical costs.

If you work from home, or are self-employed, having a maid service can give you a much-needed tax write-off. You may be able to claim a portion of your home that they clean. Many personal maids don’t do this, as they like to be paid in cash and do not give receipts. Some people think that hiring an independent maid (a cleaning lady not associated with a service) is cheaper. This is incorrect, and can actually cost you more money. Hiring a cleaning service will save you money over hiring an independent maid because there are no tax implications.

Have a clean home without worry

Reason number eight is that you don’t have to worry about something being lost or stolen, because maid service employees are bonded and insured. If a cleaning lady that you hire personally breaks something, you are responsible for paying to replace it. With a professional maid service, you don’t have to worry about hiring illegal immigrants, which could end up costing you hundreds of dollars in fines. A maid service does a thorough background check on all of their employees before hiring them. The tenth reason that hiring a maid service over an individual is quality. Maid services employees go through a rigorous training program and know how to clean a home professionally. If you don’t like the work, simply call them back and they will re-clean it. With an individual maid, the quality could be shoddy and they don’t carry any sort of guarantee in case you don’t like their work. They simply take your money and go home.

You’re being judged at your establishment based on your bathrooms

Did you know customers are judging your establishments based on your bathrooms?

I don’t know about you but i judge establishments on their bathroom cleanliness. It’s the final seal of approval on my opinion of the place and if i’ll be going back. I want to feel comfortable when using the restroom in public places. Don’t you?

Customer experience is most effectively described as the perception a customer has of your brand. There are many ways to impact this experience. From advertising to customer service department personnel to facility upkeep, each interaction or experience a customer has with your brand will shape their perception of your organization or product(s). What impact does a restroom experience have on customer experience?

 Expectations

People expect a clean restroom in a public facility. The smell should be neutral. Floors, counters, toilets, and urinals should be sanitary and dry. Toilet paper and hand towels should always be accessible. A neutral experience is an acceptable experience. A positive experience is an exceptional experience!

The customer experience is all-important.  Organizations focus marketing efforts and hire entire departments of staff to create the customer experience envisioned for the brand.  Yet, there are other factors that can influence the customer experience. Your brand IS impacted by the condition of your restrooms.  Ensure guests receive the desired customer experience when visiting the restroom.

Restroom Problems

Though common occurrences, the following list of problems in restrooms will negatively impact the customer experience.

-Odors

Restrooms reflect the quality of service provided throughout your business. Cleanlink magazine revealed that 89% of people consider a restroom dirty if it smells bad. Many of these odors are hidden.

-Dirty Surfaces

The best way to keep restroom grout clean is to prevent it from getting dirty in the first place. Applying a sealer (penetrant, barrier, etc.) will help the grout repel soils and odors which will make cleaning easier. Regular dust mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming will help to keep dry soil from abrading and scratching the surface and/or sealer. Regular wet mopping with microfiber will help keep dirt, grease, body oils, and soap scum from penetrating and becoming trapped in the grout.

-Slippery Floors

Either the dirt and debris has not been removed or there is residue left from the cleaning process.

-No Soap or Paper Products

A common cause of empty hand soap dispensers occurs when the facility staff is faced with the following conundrum – “Do I change the soap cartridge now and possibly waste the rest of the soap in the cartridge, or do I gamble and hope it lasts until tomorrow?”

-Broken stalls and dispensers

For obvious reasons, customers never appreciate the experience of facilities in disrepair. Damage does occur, and businesses would be best served to act with a sense of urgency and restore a positive impression.

It is challenging to consistently deliver a quality restroom experience to the guest, and yet it is vital to the customer experience. Consider the following:

  • 94% of U.S. adults would avoid a business in the future if they encounter a dirty restroom.

-Harris interactive

  • 73% of consumers surveyed, complain about dirty or ill-equipped restrooms.

-Consumer Reports

Hire a cleaner if you need to do a detailed cleaning of your establishment. Have staff clean and maintain it or hire someone to do it. Just remember, customers are judging you based on your restrooms.

  5. Using paper towels, remove any debris and food gunk.

Let it stand for about 20 minutes, then turn on to finish cycle. (sometimes I will let it sit over night, and turn it back on to finish when I get up)
  10. When done, wipe out the inside with dry paper towels.
  11. Don’t forget to wipe down the outside while you’re at it. Depending on the type of dishwasher you have, spray the front of your dishwasher with a mild spray cleaner or stainless steel cleaner.
  12. step back and enjoy your clean dishwasher!

In the future remember to take the time out to clean your dishwasher!

Remove clutter…know when to let it go!

Clutter has a tendency to take up a lot of space. Additionally, clutter can pile up quickly, meaning your house could go from tidy to chaotic in a short period of time. This is especially true if you’re prone to placing sentimental value on items. Once you attach emotion to an object, it’s harder to get rid of. Harder, but not impossible. Don’t end up like one of those homes on Hoarders.

Don’t let clutter take over! Know when to let something go when you no longer have a need for it. Every year or two I try to go through things in storage and in my closet to get rid of. If it no longer has a purpose or doesn’t fit me then I don’t need it. Of course I struggle with a lot of items I don’t want to give up just yet. So I may hold on to it another year or so. If you’re not using the item then ask yourself why should you save it?

Want to be happier? Hire a housekeeper

We’re all looking for happiness at the end of the day

So you want to be happier? Hire a housekeeper! If you want a happier life, the key is to create more free time to do the things you enjoy. By hiring a housekeeper you’re able to relieve that stress and burden of having to clean your own home.

A study by the University of British Columbia and Harvard Business School, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, has found buying time makes people happier than buying material things. Despite rising incomes, people around the world are feeling increasingly pressed for time, undermining well-being. We show that the time famine of modern life can be reduced by using money to buy time. Surveys of large, diverse samples from four countries reveal that spending money on time-saving services is linked to greater life satisfaction. To establish causality, we show that working adults report greater happiness after spending money on a time-saving purchase than on a material purchase. This research reveals a previously unexamined route from wealth to well-being: spending money to buy free time.

Around the world, increases in wealth have produced an unintended consequence: a rising sense of time scarcity. We provide evidence that using money to buy time can provide a buffer against this time famine, thereby promoting happiness. Using large, diverse samples from the United States, Canada, Denmark, and The Netherlands (n = 6,271), we show that individuals who spend money on time-saving services report greater life satisfaction. A field experiment provides causal evidence that working adults report greater happiness after spending money on a time-saving purchase than on a material purchase. Together, these results suggest that using money to buy time can protect people from the detrimental effects of time pressure on life satisfaction.

25 Surprising Ways To Use Mineral Oil

25 Surprising Ways To Use Mineral Oil

Check out our list of 25 surprising ways to use mineral oil. By definition Mineral Oil is a colorless, oily, almost tasteless, water-insoluble liquid made from petroleum by distillation. It’s considered a lubericant but if swallowed can be a laxative. Mineral oil can be found in furniture polish, wood treatment products, stainless steel cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners and air fresheners.

Here are 25 tips on how to use mineral oil. The first 8 are ways to use mineral oil for cleaning. While the rest are other helpful tips you may of never known to use around your home.

  1. Condition Wood Furniture

Mineral oil will help preserve and protect wooden furniture in the same way that many other store-bought furniture polishes will

  2. Protect Cutting Boards The oil will also help prevent cutting boards from getting cut marks in them, which will keep bacteria from hiding in any crevices on the surface of your cutting board.
  3. Remove Stains Use mineral oil as a pre-wash method for super easy stain removal. All you have to do is dab a little bit of it on the stain, and then throw your clothes in the wash.
  4. Prevent Rust If you’ve got outdoor furniture that you need to protect from rusting, cover it in mineral oil. Then, you’ll have protection from the elements so that your metal stays rust-free for longer.
  5. Shine Appliances

A little bit of mineral oil goes a long way. It’ll have all of your appliances looking shiny and good as new in no time.

  6. Remove Paint

If you’re cleaning up a construction site and need to remove overspray paint from a surface minerial oil will be your hero! Or if youve been doing any sort of painting around your house and have a hard time getting that it off of your hands, mineral oil is to the rescue.

  7. Remove Stickers Especially if you have kids, you know that stickers can wind up on anything and be a royal pain to remove. Nothing a rag and some mineral oil can’t solve, though.
  8. Clean and Maintain KnivesMineral oil creates a barrier against atmospheric moisture, and will help keep knives rust-free. Mineral oil can also be used as a lubricant when honing edged tools with a sharpening stone.
  9. Diffuse Oil

Mixing mineral oil with other essential oils can keep your house smelling light and fresh. Just refill one of those containers that you may have that had previoud oil in it with the sticks sticking out of it.

  10. Lengthen The Life Of Your Razor

After you finish shaving, carefully dry the razor then dab some mineral oil onto the blades using a q-tip.

  11. Silence A Creaky Floor

If you have an older home with some squeaky floors, pouring a bit of mineral oil into the noisy joint cant help reduce the squeak.

  12. Silence a Squeaky door

Got a loud, creaky door? Nothing a little mineral oil can’t help.

  13. Protect Garden Tools

Garden tools typically have metal ends and wooden handles, and mineral oil can work wonders on both materials.

  14. Preserve Eggs

If your a dooms day prepper this one is ideal to know.  You can preserve eggs without refrigeration for months using mineral oil.

  15. Un-Jam A Paper Shredder

I am a chronic over-stuffer when it comes to shredding documents. Un-jam a shredder or give it a tax time tune-up by dripping a little mineral oil onto the blades to keep everything cutting smoothly.

  16. Untangle A Necklace

Is your favorite gold or silver chain in a knot? Before paying a jeweler to fix your necklace, dip the knot into mineral oil. Then use a pin to work the oily knot open.

  17. Brighten Linoleum Counters

A Wise Bread editor discovered this old-school tip by accident. While seasoning wood cutting boards, he dripped mineral oil onto his vintage linoleum kitchen counters and discovered that the oil refreshed the color of the faded linoleum! Be aware that the vibrant colors revealed by oil only last about three weeks before fading, and constant application of mineral oil to linoleum will make it break down. So, only use this tip on special occasions like photo shoots or holiday parties when you really need your kitchen to look extra-gorgeous.

  18. Ouch Free Bandage Removal

Saturate the bandage with mineral oil. Working from the outside edge of the bandage, slowly peel the bandage away from the skin, applying more oil as needed.

  19. Remove Gum and Wax From Hair

Peanut butter costs way too much to be wasted on hair-related gum accidents. Work mineral oil into the gum and affected hair until all the gum comes off easily, without pulling. Also, if you have the personal fortitude to wax your own bikini line, you can remove stubborn wax residue with mineral oil.

  20. Soften Cracked Feet

Are your heels super dry? Regularly slather your feet with mineral oil at bedtime to keep the skin supple and crack-free. (Cover your oily feet with socks to keep your sheets clean).

  21. Treat Ear Mites In Dogs

Mineral oil is a non-toxic method of killing ear mites in dogs. Mineral oil works by smothering the mites, but as with humans, mineral oil is also good for loosening hard earwax and buildup in your dog’s ears that can cause distress. Use an eyedropper to put several drops of oil in each ear. Instead of sticking the eyedropper into the ears, massage your dog’s ears to move the oil down the entire ear canal. Fair warning: your dog will want to shake its head, so do this in the bathroom, where spattering oil and earwax can be wiped down.

  22. Dislodge Earwax

Place a few drops of body temperature mineral oil in the ears before bedtime for up to five days. Once the wax has softened, rinse ears with warm water (this can be as simple as tilting your head in the shower), then, tip your head so the wax can drain out. Dry your ears with a hair dryer set on low.

  23. Protect Skin In Freezing Weather

Old-time arctic explorers went out of their way to avoid washing their faces to preserve the protective layer of natural skin oil to prevent chapping. Because it provides such a good barrier against the elements, mineral oil is a great product to protect exposed skin in cold climates.

  24. Moisturizer

Although there is a huge amount of beauty propaganda devoted to describing mineral oil as pure evil in a bottle, contrary to popular belief, mineral oil does not cause acne or blackheads. Its molecular structure is too large to penetrate pores, so it moisturizes by creating a barrier on top of the skin that keeps moisture in and dry air out.

  25. Reduce Rashes

Along with cradle cap, mineral oil can be used to prevent diaper rash and soothe other types of skin irritation such as skin burns from radiation therapy.

Cleaning up a greasy kitchen

Cleaning a greasy kitchen can be tough

Cleaning up a greasy kitchen can be a tough job! In my cleaning business we do a lot of move outs. I have to say the most stuburn thing to clean is a kitchen that has had a lot of cooking done with oil. You’ll feel the oil baked onto the cabinets, oven hood and fan blades when there is a fan in the kitchen. I’ve put in many hours of scrubbing to get them back to normal. Over the years, I’ve used baking soda, vinegar and degreasers. However after a recent conservation I learned a new trick! Something I wish I knew years ago!! We all know the saying, “oil and water don’t mix”. So why I never applied it to my cleaning methods is insane! So the aswer to best clean oil is with oil!

You can use mineral oil or vegtable oil. Just apply to a paper towel and wipe. Just becareful with mineral oil on certain surfaces, It can remove paint. For stubborn areas make a paste by adding baking soda to help scrub surface. I wish I knew how easy this was years ago. Good luck and happy cleaning!

Tips On Fixing A Vacuum With Horrible Suction

Learn on how to fix your vacuum with horrible suction

Learn how to fix a vacuum with horrible suction. I have tried numerous vacuums throughout the past seven years. No matter how expensive or cheap a vacuum is, it’s usefulness comes down to it’s suction performance. Many of us have been guilty of having a sucky vacuum in our home that has horrible suction. Instead of getting frustrated and tossing it to purchase another one try these tips.

1.) Adjust The Height

A lot of times the reason it’s not sucking up everything is becasue the height isn’t low enough and close to the floor. Look for a dial or lever with levels from 1 to 5 on it or your vacuum might just have two options between “bare floor” and “carpet”. I have seen many people use a vacuum but ignore this feature.

2.) Check To See If The Bag Is Full

If the suction is still poor after you’ve adjusted the height then check the bag. If the bag is full your suction will be poor. Some vacuum have a light to tell you when the bag is full while others you have to check. If there isn’t much room inside left for any more dirt then change the bag or empty the chamber. The vacuum sounds the sam with or without a full bag so you must check it every now and then to see.

3.) The Hose May Be Clogged

Disconnect the hose from the vacuum and look through it to see if you get a clean view out. Some hoses have corners so this is not possible. I always throw a nickel down one end and figure out if it gets stuck in the hose and if so where to know where the clog is. It’s best to take it outside to clean it. Try sticking a broom handle down it to see if it unclogs. If your hose does have corners this won’t always work so unfold a wire hanger to help pick it out.

4.) The Roller May Be Clogged

It’s time to flip your vacuum over and clean it up. If the roller is wrapped with hair or yarn from your carpet, it won’t be able to turn or brush through the carpet and  will fail miserably at picking up dirt. If you see your roller is full of hair, yarn or some cords, this can easily be fixed with a sharp pair of scissors. Snip through the hair and gunk a little at a time. The furry mess will come off in small pieces, so as you cut, start pulling it away and tossing it in the trash. Once you are done, flip the vacuum over and see if it is working better.

5.) Maybe The Vacuum Isn’t Airtight

The vacuum may not be working because it isn’t airtight. Just like its name, a vacuum relies on the machine creating a vacuum to suck up dirt from the floor. If air is escaping the system, it can’t pull the stuff up. If there’s a gap for air to get around the closure, your vacuum won’t pick up much from the floor. Check that the pieces are securely put together. If that looks good, check to make sure your vacuum bag is securely attached to the vacuum. Maybe you didn’t push it on far enough when installing the vacuum bag, it may have fallen off and therefore there’s no suction being created.

So If your vacuum still isn’t working, you may want to consider taking it to a vacuum repair shop. Call around to local repair shops to find out if they service your make and model. Vacuum repairs are often fairly inexpensive, but if you have a larger problem, it may be more cost effective to purchase a new vacuum. The person on the other end of the phone may be willing to do a little diagnosis over the phone before you lug it down to the shop. This won’t be incredibly accurate, but depending on your vacuum and what symptoms it has, they may tell you to skip the repairs and purchase a new one. They’ll be able to fix any vacuum with horrible suction!
